Burns & Wilcox Donates $63,840 to Hunger Relief Organizations in the U.S., Canada and United Kingdom Amid COVID-19

Farmington Hills, Mich. Burns & Wilcox, North America’s leading wholesale insurance broker and underwriting manager, and parent company H.W. Kaufman Group, today announced its donation of $63,840 to benefit hunger-relief organizations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, amid COVID-19. The donation is a result of its associate-driven Kaufman Gives Back program.

Food banks around the world have been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With school closures, job losses and decreased access to food, millions have turned to food banks for support. In an effort to leverage the company’s global network and workforce, each new business policy bound with Burns & Wilcox in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. during the month of May resulted in a donation of $5 or more to charities leading the fight to end hunger.

“At Burns & Wilcox we know the importance of giving back and want to act fast to support our communities in great need,” said Alan Jay Kaufman, Chairman, President and CEO, H.W. Kaufman Group. “Our 50-year legacy of giving and supporting our communities is more important than ever as we face the impacts of a global pandemic. At its foundation, the insurance industry exists to provide relief when disaster strikes, which is why we dedicated May as a month of giving.”

Burns & Wilcox and Kaufman thank its dedicated team of professionals, insurance carrier partners and retail brokers and agents. Their continued efforts in underwriting, brokering, and placing complex risks were key in making the program a success.

In the United States, funds will be donated to Feeding America, in Canada, Food Banks Canada, and The Trussell Trust in the United Kingdom.

In addition, Burns & Wilcox is donating to support Forgotten Harvest, a non-profit food rescue organization that collects food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it free of charge to organizations feeding the hungry in Metro Detroit—where Burns & Wilcox is headquartered.

The Kaufman Gives Back program is an expansion of Champions & Charities, the company’s signature philanthropic initiative. Throughout the month of May, Burns & Wilcox associates were also encouraged to participate in various philanthropic and community service activities, in the areas in which they conduct business.

Champions & Charities celebrates the community giving efforts inspired by the company’s associates and brand ambassadors, including Jimmy Walker, Webb Simpson and Justin Abdelkader. To date, the initiative has supported Team Fox for Parkinson’s Research, Global Lyme Alliance, Forgotten Harvest, and City of Hope.
